What the tours include:


If departing from Dubbo you'll leave from the Visitor Information Centre at 6.30am and travel in the comfort of a Langley's Coach to RiverSmart's Window on the Wetlands Centre in Warren (approx 90 minutes). Pickups in Narromine and Trangie are also possible - see below.


There you'll enjoy a break and a tea or coffee at the Kookaburra Kiosk, where you'll meet your tour guide (Dr Bill Phillips - see below) and have the chance to browse the education signage about the region, its history, wildlife, climate, agriculture, and most importantly the Macquarie Marshes.



The tour will then depart for the Marshes, at approximately 8.45am) travelling just over 100 kms to Gibson's Way.  Along the way we'll tell you about the early explorers, the Indigenous people of the Marshes, the Macquarie River valley and spot some wildlife.


Then, depending on road and weather conditions, we'll take you to two or three sites (we have several options to choose from) and show you the Macquarie Marshes as few people have seen them before!


Lunch, provided by us (unless you take the self-cater option), will be taken at a shady spot near the wetland.


We will aim to start the journey home at 2.30pm to be back in Warren by 4pm and Dubbo by 5.30pm.


Single tickets: $145 catered by us or $120 if you self-cater (includes GST)

Family tickets (2 adults and 2 children): $500 if catered by or $460 if you self-cater.

About your tour guide:

Dr Bill Phillips, CEO of RiverSmart, has had a long association with rivers and wetlands starting back in his youth living along the Murray River. Professionally Bill has worked in the Federal Environment Department, as second-in-charge of the international Wetlands Convention (Ramsar), as a freelance consultant and more recently was instrumental in establishing the not-for-profit organisation RiverSmart, which now operates the Window on the Wetlands Centre in Warren - one of the gateways to the Macquarie Marshes.


Cancellation policy:


We reserve the right to cancel, or postpone a tour if the weather or road conditions make it unwise or impossible to proceed.  In such instances we will endeavour to re-book you on a subsequent tour for a date that suits you. If that's not possible your ticket fee will be refunded minus the administration fee.


We also reserve the right to postpone a tour if there aren't a required minimum number of tickets sold. In such cases every effort will be made to re-book you on a suitable future tour or a refund provided.





These day-trips to the Marshes will cost as follows:

- If departing from Dubbo, Narrromine or Trangie - $120 (GST incl)

- If departing from Warren - $100 (GST incl).


When are tours available?

From Warren - tours will operate from the WOW Centre in Warren every Thursday (starting on 21st September, 8.00 am departure) through until late November. Tours will be offered more frequently if there is sufficient demand. Private groups should contact us to make special arrangements.


From Dubbo - tours will operate (weather permitting) each Saturday starting on 23rd September through until late November. The bus will leave from the Visitor Information Centre at 6.30am, pickup in Narromine at 7.00am (opposite the VIC) and in Trangie at the Trangie Caravan park at 7.20am).

What you need to provide:

Your curiosity!

Sturdy, enclosed footwear - no open top shoes please and definitely no thongs! (Red-bellied black snakes like wetlands).

Long pants and long sleeve shirt (recommended)

Sunhat, sunscreen and insect repellent.

Drinking bottle and water (we'll have refills available)

Camera, binoculars.


Things to be aware of:

These tours include some walking (up to 2 kilometres depending on the sites visited) over uneven ground. To enjoy yourself you'll reasonable levels of fitness and be steady on your feet. We're sorry if this excludes some people but it's out of our control - this is the outback.


Some sites will also be wet under foot (this is a wetland after all).  While we'll try to keep your feet dry, you may want to bring a spare pair of shoes and socks.
