Fishing is considered the most popular recreational activity associated with rivers. Over the years much has been learnt about how to do this sport in ways to minimise any negative impacts on non-target species.

In addition, each Australian State and Territory has fisheries agencies and each of them have their own rules and regulations which anglers must abide by.

So, before you go fishing make sure to check out these legal requirements, including a fishing license where one is required.

Below we’ve reproduced here for you two education panels from the Window on the Wetlands Centre in Warren, entitled Fish for the Future and How to be a RiverSmart angler.

These summarise our views on how you should behave when you go fishing.
